Prime Minister Julie Gillard of Australia and Premier Wen Jiabao of China have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on strengthening tourism cooperation with China.
The new MoU was deemed by the Australian Tourism Export Council (ATEC) as an opportunity to increase yield and expand Australian products to what is now the country’s largest export market.John King, chairman, ATEC, was quoted ineTravel Blackboard Australia as having said that China had just moved into first place as Australia’s biggest export market in expenditure, and the forecast is for this market to continue to grow rapidly through 2020. King added that Australia should focus on improving its product range for the Chinese market.
Australia is the first western country granted the approved destination status from China.
