The number of tourists entering Nepal via Belhiya point, Rupandehi district, crossed 63800 during the first six month of 2012. Last year, some 54,000 tourists had entered Nepal through the point.
Belhiya point welcomes the highest number of tourists coming from land in Nepal, according to Chief of Immigration Office, Belhiya, Yadav Raj Pandey.
Sanjaya Bajimaya, Chairman Siddhartha Association of Travel Agents (SATA) Lumbini Chapter said that the number of Indian visitors is increasing, giving a boost to tourism industry in the region.
Number of visitors from Sri Lanka, Thailand and Myanmar–all Buddhist dominated countries– has sharply increased while the number of tourists arriving from South Korea and China is also increasing.
Most of the tourists coming from this point come for Lumbini, the birth place of Buddha.
