Locals in Pokhara have initiated protests to mounting pressure on the concerned bodies to initiate works on construction of International Airport in the tourist city.
A sit-in protest was staged at the Pokhara office of Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) on Wednesday against a ´delay´ in initiating the construction task of an international-level regional airport there.
At the call of airport construction concerned committee, Pokhara, a rally aimed at mounting the pressure on the bodies concerned to initiate the construction task was taken out at local Srijana chowk, state-owned news agency RSS reports.
The same gathering visited the District Administration Office, Kaski and handed over a memorandum to Chief District Officer Tirtha Prasad Bhattarai to that end and sat for the protest.
Representatives from Pokhara Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Western Regional Hotel Association, Tourism Council, Federation of Nepali Journalists Pokhara chapter, local tourism entrepreneurs, business community and journalists joined the rally.
The government in 2031 BS had acquired 3106 ropanis of land at Chhine Danda, citing for the construction of an international airport.Of late, a Chinese company has proposed for soft loan to construct the airport.
The Committee has accused the CAAN of causing a delay in initiating the construction task.
