  1. Cultural Respect: Sri Lanka is a deeply religious country with rich cultural traditions. When visiting temples, Buddhist sites, or sacred areas, dress modestly—cover shoulders and knees—and remove footwear before entering. Always ask for permission before photographing people or religious ceremonies.
  2. Weather Variability: The climate can vary significantly between regions. Coastal areas are typically hot and humid, while the hill country can be cooler, especially in the evenings. Pack accordingly, and be prepared for sudden weather changes, particularly in the mountains.
  3. Environmental Responsibility: Help preserve Sri Lanka’s natural beauty by minimizing waste. Use reusable water bottles and refuse single-use plastics. Follow designated paths during hikes and avoid disturbing wildlife or damaging plant life.
  4. Local Customs and Etiquette: Greeting with a smile and a polite “Ayubowan” (hello) is appreciated. Respect local traditions and customs, especially in rural areas and sacred sites. Ask before taking photos of people or their property.
  5. Health Precautions: Stay hydrated and use insect repellent to prevent mosquito-borne illnesses. Consume bottled or purified water and eat freshly prepared foods. Carry a basic first aid kit and any personal medications.
  6. Travel Insurance: Ensure your travel insurance covers medical expenses, cancellations, and emergencies. Keep a copy of your insurance details with you at all times.
  7. Transportation Tips: Domestic travel may involve long drives or train journeys; be patient and flexible with schedules. Ghale Treks will handle all arrangements, but consider carrying some snacks and entertainment for longer travel periods.
  8. Connectivity: Mobile network coverage is generally good in cities and towns but may be limited in rural or remote areas. Consider purchasing a local SIM card for better connectivity if needed.
  9. Money Matters: While ATMs are available in major towns, smaller villages may only accept cash. Carry enough local currency for small purchases, tips, and emergencies.
  10. Safety Advice: Always follow the guidance of your tour guides and local authorities. Keep valuables secure and remain cautious in crowded places to prevent theft.

By keeping these additional notes in mind, you’ll ensure a respectful, safe, and memorable experience on your Sri Lanka adventure!
